Quakers (Still Publishers of Truth?)

The announcement of a group, “Quakers and the 9/11 Truth Movement,” was just another issue to me. Until I saw that a Quaker was reminding us that Quakers have always searched for Truth, and that the mainstream media labels any questioning of the official story as a “conspiracy theory.” I decided to go to the group and keep an open mind.

Trained as an attorney, and having heard many conspiracy theories from my younger brother, I normally avoid these discussions. I went as a skeptic to listen to a fellow Quaker. I’m glad I did. David Chandler, of Visalia Meeting, a teacher of math and physics laid out his evidence-based research. He had analyzed the collapse of Building 7 (the 3rd building of the World Trade Center which collapsed on Sept 11) and using videos, investigation reports and state of the art measuring tools, he demonstrated that this 3rd building (not hit by a plane) could only have collapsed due to precisely placed explosives.

His analysis has been accepted by other scientists and engineers, and as a result, he has been invited to be a presenter at a scientific conference on the subject in Toronto this Fall. David presents his evidence precisely and without hyperbole, and is careful to separate his and his colleagues’ research from psychological or conspiratorial theories. He feels led to share the evidence with Quakers, in a sincere search for truth.

Why does it matter? It matters because at a minimum, the official story of 9/11 was and
continues to be used to justify the ongoing US wars in the Middle East, as well as “enhanced airport security” and violations of our civil rights. Quakers are rightly concerned about the military budget, indoctrination of our children, and the Patriot Act. What if all those actions are based on a false premise? That does matter – and David Chandler and others’ production of physical evidence may one day lead to the truth.

Whether or not the issue ever rises to the level of Quaker action, surely individual Quakers can take the risk of listening to a sincere evidence-based presentation by a fellow Quaker. (To question the truth about governmental accounts of who orchestrated and undertook various “terrorist” attacks leads to one being dismissed as “conspiracy theorists” and it takes some guts to brave the ridicule or incredulity which results from asking questions about what society as a whole does not question.)

2 To enable Friends to forge a definition of “terrorism” which does not exclude killing by the military on the orders of governments

3 To ensure that the Religious Society of Friends is able to speak truth to power about terrorism as a result of having studied terrorist incidents

4 To develop an attitude towards terrorism and fundamentalism which is consistent with our Peace Testimony and Truth Testimony

5 To develop a Quaker view on the seminal terrorist event of our age which has sparked several wars, the attacks on New York City and Washington DC of September 11th 2001

6 To oppose all 9/11 wars on the basis of reliable information.
